The band was formed in the city of Sverdlovsk in 1980. Urfin Juice, named after the antagonist of a popular children's book by Alexander Wolkov, became a new, radical phenomenon in the country. It was a symbiosis of Led Zeppelin and Supertramp, with sound experiments and strange, unusual lyrics.
The band recorded 3 albums, including “15” (1981), which brought them legendary status in Russian rock. Even now the album is the one of the most successful progressive rock albums in Russia.
The band, for the whole six years of their history, gave only 25 live performances. This can be explained by the complicated relationships inside the group, and the misunderstanding of their music by Soviet functionaries and communist party leaders. .
