A Russian punk rock band formed in Tyumen, Russian Federation in 1980s by Dmitry Kolokolov and Евгений Кокорин.
The original lineup consisted of Dmitry (rhythm guitar, vocals), Eugene (lead guitar, vocals) and Vadim Zuev (drums).
Their early albums were recorded one after another on the only reel of cassette tape they had, and their first several concerts were extremely unsuccessful.

In 1991 Kolokolov and Zuev created their own band Мёртвый Ты, and Kokorin joined a band called Инструкция По Выживанию as a guitarist.

In 1994, after Vadim Zuev's death, Dmitry Kolokolov returned to Чернозём and in 1995 their album "Подарок для самого слабого" was released. It was a success.
In the same year Maxim Sharkov (keyboards) joined the band.

Another their album called "Криминальный альбом" was released in 1996.
The following year Dmitry Kolokolov was found dead near Trans-Siberian railway.

In 1999 Igor Goulyaev (guitar), Timur Latfullin (guitar) and Alexandra Beloguzova (violin) joined the band. .
New albums "Прекрасное далёко" and "Ненавсегда" were released and several concerts were given by musicians in Moscow and other Russian cities and towns during the years 2000 and 2001.

In 2002 Чернозём successfully performed at a festival which is called "Яйцо" ("An Egg") with another new member Lelya Yuzhaninova (guitar) and session musicians Alexander Polyakov (bass guitar) and Serge Slyusarenko (drums), who had played with them several times before. Later they joined the band too.

In 2004 an album "Паводок (Непонятный праздник)" was released.
The album "Ненавсегда" was remastered and released again in 2007. .
