BOMBAY BLACK was formed in the spring of 2003 with singer Erik Johnson and bassist Ty Sims recording Erik's material. Guitarist Jim Perry and drummer Rob McCauley were recruited to round out the band about a year later and began their first tour opening for bands such as L.A. Guns, Firehouse, and Slaughter. They've since shared stages with Vince Neil, Bret Michaels Band, Black Stone Cherry, Winger, Mudvayne, KORN, Black Label Society, Static X, Warrant, Lita Ford and more. Five months in an isolated cabin can be dangerous. Too much time on your hands can be hazardous for the mental health, and after the first month we were all courting madness, behaving quite erratically. Thankfully, we were equipped with weapons to stave of the slow approach of insanity. There were cellos, saxophones, guitars, moog synthesizers, bizarre eastern instruments, turntables, xylophones, mandolins, dulcimers, violins, keyboards, hand drums, microphones and all sorts of other musical devices of mayhem; a veritable arsenal of sonic destruction. Part of the early-2000s worldtronica movement, Black Bombay mixes the concepts of trip-hop with Hindi vocals and a bit of Indian percussion here and there. The vocalists used are quite powerful ones, with voices soaring over the instrumental tracks easily. While the worldtronica trend wasn't exactly new at the time of this album's release (taking its first major steps with "Return to Innocence" years ago), the force behind it was growing rapidly.
