Dominick Martin aka Calibre is the 1st exclusively Irish Drum and Bass artist. Classically trained in violin, he dropped this for drums and began playing in various bands, before finding early Detroit techno and house. His inspiration around that time is said to wander around the likes of Kenny Larkin, Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, the Orb. His brother introduced Calibre to drum and bass and jungle, which at first he couldn’t follow the pattern as he felt it was too relentless and 'beaty', and so at that point he preferred four to the floor drumbeats from the US house style....
Over the years, cali≠gari has gone through many member changes, the only original member remaining being Ao. They've also had 2 vocalists by the name of Shuuji - the second one joined the band in 2000. cali≠gari took their name from an old horror film, and they are considered to be the pioneers of the eroguro genre (a subset of Angura-Kei) that includes such bands as MUCC (MUCC) and メリー (merry). Members: Ishii Shuuji (vocal/guitar), Sakurai Ao (guitar/vocal), Murai Kenjirou (bass), Takei Makoto (drums). They "paused activities" in 2003. .
HALCALI is a Japanese rap-pop duo from Tokyo's Meguro district. Its two members, Haruka (Halca) and Yukari (Yucali) also comprise the group's name; a concatenation of "Haru" and "kari". Haruka, born April 21, 1988 and Yukari, born July 18, 1987 originally met as finalists at a hip-hop audition held in a local school in the Meguro district, where both were born.
