Gönül Yazar is a popular Turkish singer and actress. She is one of the most famous Turkish entertainers of all time with a peak in 1960's and 1970's. Her sister Belkıs Özener is also a famous singer. Gönül Yazar was born in the port city of Izmir on 12 August 1940. At the age of 14, she won a singing competition called "Ege Ses Kraliçesi Yarışması" (Vocal Queen of the Aegean).
