There are three bands with the name Jazz. 1. JAZZ is a band from Spokane, WA consisting of four losers trying to do something important with their lives. Ben Smith - Drums Alex Paul - Bass Adam Price - Guitar, vocals Ramsey Troxel - Guitar, Vocals 2. Garage punk from Edmonton, Alberta by Weird Canada overlord Aaron Levin. Backed by pals from Gobble Gobble, Dropping Out and the Wicked Awesomes!, Levin channels his hyperbolic written enthusiasm into quadro-spazzed blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em ragers. Fall might be creeping into winter, but international jangle-punk superhits like “Your Stuff”, “Cowboy” and especially the stupidly catchy “Summer”...
Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) is an influential Japanese electropop band, formed in 1978. They are renowned as a major influence in popular music, and for pioneering the electropop music genre. The principal members are Haruomi Hosono (bass), Yukihiro Takahashi (drums) and Ryuichi Sakamoto (keyboards). The band was originally conceived as a one-off studio project by Hosono, the other two members being recruited session musicians - the idea was to produce an album fusing orientalist exotica (cf their cover version of Martin Denny's Firecracker) with modern electronics. However the first album (with its cutting-edge production) was very popular, and the studio...
The Modern Jazz Quartet was formed in 1952 by Milt Jackson (vibraphone), John Lewis (piano, musical director), Percy Heath (bass), and Kenny Clarke (drums). Connie Kay replaced Clarke in 1955. Various of the members had played together backing other artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Ray Brown, and in Jackson's own Quartet. Through their long existence, they have worked with Classical musicians and are known for incorporating elements of Classical music into jazz, being one of the most notable examples of the style called Third Stream. The group disbanded in 1974 and reformed in 1981 on a part-time basis, with...
Shut Up And Dance - british breakbeat pioneers from scratch. Started with Hip Hop tunes and set up a soundsystem with DJ Hype but soon they integrated House and Techno influences and sped up the beats. With Reinforced SUAD could count as inventors of UK Hardcore. Early classics like Lamborghini, 10 Pounds To Get In, Greenman, The Art Of Moving Butts or the famous Raving I'm Raving saved them a place in the Hall Of Fame of UK Hardcore. After having problems with several unauthorized samples their own label "Shut Up And Dance" disappeared - but rose again from the...
Electric Light Orchestra were a symphonic rock band which formed in Birmingham, England in 1970. The band was formed by Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar, multiple instruments), Roy Wood (multiple instruments, vocals), Richard Tandy (keyboards, vocals) and Bev Bevan (drums). Lynne, Wood and Bevan were former members of the psychedelic rock band The Move. The band's lineup would fluctuate throughout its original incarnation, although Lynne, Tandy and Bevan would remain constant members. They incorporated the sounds of string ensembles, vocoders and dub echos into rock songs, thereby creating a very sophisticated studio version of rock. The musical content of ELO songs...
