The Austin Klezmorim originated in Austin Texas in 1978. They are the oldest working Klezmer band in the Southwest. Led by trumpeter/composer Bill Averbach the band has release several albums as well as film soundtracks and compilations of Klezmer music. They have contributed significantly to the development of Modern Klezmer with many original pieces and the fusion of the traditional music with other less traditional forms. They are strongly influenced by Jazz artists including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Sun Ra, and Jazz poet Lord Buckley. .
