In 1993 Morten Henriksen (ex-Cosmic Dropouts, now fronting the splendid powerpop quartet The Yum Yums) organized several gigs in Norway for the Devil Dogs whose singer/bass player Steve Baise got to know his later Norwegian wife at one of the shows. Since Steve was now quite frequently coming back to Norway Morten had the idea of creating a Devil Dogs cover band with buddies Thomas Seltzer and Knut Schreiner featuring Steve Baise himself on the vocals. Seminal doo wop group the Del-Vikings were trailblazers in two senses: first, showing that a racially integrated group could achieve mass success, and, second, showing that line-up changes, label shenanigans, and other difficulties could snuff that success despite multiple pop hits. The original group had served together in the U.S. Air Force. In 1955, they were stationed in at the Air Force installation at the Pittsburgh airport in nearby Corapolis. Singing together in their spare time brought a desire to hear for themselves what they sounded like.

The Mighty Vikings is (they still play even though not in the original formation) a five-decade-old band from Kingston, Jamaica. Often having over 15 members (and big guns such as Derrick Harriott, Lester Sterling and Jackie Mittoo) in its formation, the band played around in Jamaica until they made their first international tour in 1964 - in the same year they won the RJR Radio popularity contest in Jamaica, which led to the recording of this celebration album.
