Mighty Clouds is a new project that finds Fred Thomas re-teaming with Betty Marie Barnes, a singer who provided vocals for Saturday Looks Good To Me's Every Night and Fill Up the Room. .
They come from the lands where this type of music is so unusual. They are young at heart and open in their mind. Their lives are their source of inspiration and their music is like clouds. Sometimes it's grey and rainy, sometimes so sweet and shiny. They are here to share their deepest music vision. So, keep your head up high and enjoy falling into clouds. .
Andy Kirk was never a major musician (in fact he never really soloed), arranger or personality yet he was a successful big bandleader in the 1930s and '40s. He started playing bass sax and tuba in Denver with George Morrison's band in 1918. In 1925 he moved to Dallas where he played with Terrence Holder's Dark Clouds of Joy. In 1929 he took over leadership of the band (which was renamed Andy Kirk's Twelve Clouds of Joy) and moved to Kansas City.
