MCs Babe-Face Kaos, Y-Tee, and Mister Man grew up in the West Indies (Y-Tee in Jamaica, Mister Man and Kaos in Trinidad), so reggae was a strong inspiration to their early years; hip-hop also figures in, however. All transplanted New Yorkers, they formed in 1992 when Mister Man saw Kaos perform. The two began collaborating, and after Mister Man suggested adding a reggae toaster, Y-Tee joined da Bush Babees. The Superbees is a rock band founded in Los Angeles in 1998 by vocalist/guitarist Dave James (The Coma-Tones, The Sacred Hearts and The Joneses), with bassist Dat Ngo, guitarist Scott Carlson (Repulsion, Cathedral and Hushdrops) and drummer Johnny Sleeper (The Stitches). In August of 2000, the Superbees released a self-titled EP. Their debut full-length, "High Volume" was released on Acetate Records in September of 2002. The "Top of the Rocks" EP followed in 2010. .

The Bumble Bees were a garage rock band from Den Haag, Zuid Holland, Netherlands, who released three 7" singles between 1966-67. Their line-up consisted of Jim ten Boske (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Joop Lelieveld (guitar, vocals), Rene Bakker (bass) and Nico Overgaauw (drums). Since 1998, Chris Rosenau and Jon Mueller have worked together as Collections of Colonies of Bees. As a sidestep to their work in the group Pele (Polyvinyl Records), this arrangement saw them using traditional folk/bluegrass instrumentation combined with modern process and technology, creating a melting pot of style so refreshing, classification became meaningless.
