Reuben "Ruby" Braff (March 16, 1927 – February 9, 2003) was an American jazz cornetist and trumpeter. Braff was a wonderfully characterful and melodic player with an immediately identifiable sound and unique tone on the cornet, an uncommon instrument in post-war jazz. He style was fundamentally based on that of earlier players including Louis Armstrong, Bobby Hackett and Bunny Berigan but he transcended these influences to always sounds fresh, sparky and somehow modern. The Ruby Doe is a rock band from Seattle, Washington. Releases include: "The Flame and the Fury (1999)," "Dream Engine Blue (2003)," (both on Hometown Tragedy Records), "Always With Wings (2005)" (Loveless Records), and "Getting Ahead in the Music Business (Hometown Tragedy). The Ruby Doe are mostly known in the Northwest for their impeccable live shows. The Doe have played with fellow local bands These Arms Are Snakes, The Divorce, Schoolyard Heroes, Zeke, and Idiot Pilot to name a few.
