Γιάννης Παπαϊωάννου {Yannis Papaioannou} (1913-1972) was a Greek musician and composer of rembetika. Born in Kios (now Gemlik), Turkey, on 18th January, he was most active in the 1940s, and wrote many classic rembetika songs. He was also a virtusoso bouzouki player. He died on 3rd August 1972 in a road accident, and was buried in a cemetery in Kallithea, just southwest of Athens. .

Γιάννης Αγγελάκας (Giannis Aggelakas) is a singer, musician, poet and actor, born in 1959 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He became widely known as the lead singer and frontman of the famous Greek rock band Τρύπες (Trypes) from 1984 to 2000 when the band disbanded. After Τρύπες disbanded in 2000 he continued his work in music by collaborating with artists like Νίκος Βελιώτης (Nikos Veliotis) - "Γιάννης Αγγελάκας & Νίκος Βελιώτης" and the group Επισκέπτες (translated 'Visitors') - "Ο Γιάννης Αγγελάκας και οι Επισκέπτες".
