Pop-punk | en

Pop-punk is a subgenre of punk with pop sensibilities such as upbeat instrumentation, catchy choruses and cheerful atmosphere. The bands/artists that play this genre include Sum 41, Blink-182, Green Day, MxPx, My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Less Than Jake, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, All Time Low, and Avril Lavigne. It was massively popular in the late 1990s and 2000s, but is making a comeback which modern twists put on by bands such as Waterparks, As It Is, State Champs, and Neck Deep. Bands such as Pennywise, NoFX, Green Day, Blink-182, the Descendants, the Clash, Guttermouth, Black Flag, Misfits, Dead Kennedys and the Offspring are major influences on the genre. Although the genre was very mainstream in the 2000s and late 1990s, it was criticized by some punk rock fans as not real punk rock cause it’s pop rock and punk rock didn’t have a pop rock sound, it was supposed to be said to be more hard-edged and root instead from garage rock. Some critics who bashed the genre have sometimes called it pseudo-punk or mall-punk. .
