Defining Art Punk is difficult, but if it could be summarized it would be to say that it is a form of punk that dares to experiment with different forms of playing instruments and even adding more, such as pianos, double bass, etc. There are usually Jazz influences and the song structures tend to be less common, with changes in the time signature on several occasions, usually unexpected. What makes Art Punk special is that all this experimentation is done under the minimalism of punk, that is, the songs make use of a simple and minimal sound, tend to be aggressive, loud and/or minimalist as well as their execution; the projects take the simple and minimalist concept of punk further by experimenting with musical styles outside the common scheme (Rock and/or Pop), reaching styles such as Jazz and Blues, among many others.

Probably one of the most influential bands is Television with their album Marquee Moon, since this album experimented as much as they wanted with punk, making use of genres such as Jazz and Blues, changing time signatures here and there and taking the songs to longer durations than usual in a punk album; but they knew how to keep under this minimalist base characteristic of punk.
