Fantasy is a genre of fiction that commonly uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. In its broadest sense, however, fantasy comprises works by many writers, artists, filmmakers, and musicians, from ancient myths and legends to many recent works embraced by a wide audience today.
The term fantasy music is used to describe a style of music that evokes settings of fantasy and adventure, usually highly narrative, with "scenes" that are played out in almost theatrical fashion. Typical fantasy music genres are dungeon synth (Mortiis), power metal (Rhapsody of Fire), epic black metal (Summoning), RPG music (植松伸夫), and fantasy film score (Howard Shore's soundtrack to "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring"). .
