Nederhop is a Dutch term for Dutch hip-hop. It is a word derived from ''Nederlands'' (Dutch for Dutch) and hip-hop.
First Dutch hip-hop records date back to 1986. Most famous is Holiday Rap from MC Miker G & DJ Sven which reached nr. 1 notations in 34 countries. How ever it was Amsterdam based Osdorp Posse who at the end of the 80s laid the basics for nederhop. They literally translated mainly gangsta rap clichés into Dutch which delivered a comical effect and laid the basics for Dutch language hip-hop. However, they quickly stopped this and became the greates underground rap crew in The Netherlands. Halfway 2009 the Osdorp Posse announced that they would quit after 20 years. Various groups have adopted this approach trough out the 90s and now there is a active scene.
There is a lot of rivalry between various cities and groups similar to 80s rap and gangsta rap. Groups see the name nederhop as diminutive and rather be seen as real hip-hop. Nederhop gets more and more media attention and airplay and some artists gained celebrity status within the Netherlands. .
