By 1997, a scene emerged in Spain led by Los Fresones Rebeldes who claimed both the melodic pop of the 60s, as the carefree attitude of the 80. The press called it "Acne Pop", although it has been called, sometimes pejoratively as "Tonti pop" because of its naive and unpretentious attitude.

With the song Al Amanecer, Los Fresones Rebeldes were quite popular, even repeatedly ringing music stations.
Other representatives of this sound were the Meteosat, Niza, La monja enana, L-KAN (from Madrid), and La Casa Azul y TCR, the asturianas Nosoträsh or the murcianos Vacaciones.
Elefant Records, is considered as the champion in the genre.
