1. Mugen is a sound-art project by Alessandro Canova, it evolved during the second half of the 90's from a study on digital/analog platforms in relation to visual design techniques. In 1999 Canova started experimenting with sine waves and white noise as his only sound sources, developing a special interest in the minimal aesthetic. Influenced by his studies on Asian arts he aims to create a meditative dimension: a contemplation of sound that lucidly expresses a refinement of the frequencies. He performed live presenting his works around Italy, France, UK and Japan.

3. Mugen was a progressive rock band from Japan, formed in 1978. Essentially a project of keyboardist Katsuhiko Hayashi and singer Takashi Nakamura, the group wove a very lush, keyboard-based symphonic sound with strong references to Genesis and The Enid. Not until 1984 did they release their first album, Sinfonia Della Luna. Originally privately released, it was picked up for distribution by the Made In Japan label (and subsequently reissued by the French progressive label Muséa). The band produced two more albums—Léda et le Cygne (1986) and The Princess of Kingdom Gone (1988) before splitting up. Hayashi went on to form the progressive "supergroup" 夜来香 (Ie Rai Shan).

4. Mugen is an artist out of Chicago, Illinois. The first crop of tracks came in November 2011 and were lo-fi, guitar-centric drones (later to be released as "Primordial Transmissions" and "Conjuring"). That winter saw further development of the Mugen sound and culminated with seven tracks that went on to make up the debut album "She Is Never Coming Back", released in June 2012. Further experimentation lead Mugen to the releases of a split with cohort NoThankYouJon (Dec 2012), "Sludge Butter" (Feb 2013), and "Swallowed By Her" (May 2013), as well as a few lo-fi schizophrenic jam session releases with NYTJ and SLOAN, each holding their own unique sounds but sharing the main goal of stacks of looped guitars/keys/sound. In October 2013, Mugen released his second official full-length "Angelica", a departure from the psychedelic drones that focuses more on blissed-out, ambient beats. Mugen is currently compiling material for a third full-length which will continue the beat-oriented mindset yet continue the evolution and experimentation he has strived for. .
