Al Hendrix was born Clyde Allen Hendrix on November 12, 1934 in Miami Florida. He has lived in California, Florida, Texas. Al's mom loved to listen to the "Grand Ole Opry" on Saturday night. That's where Al learned to appreciate music and was inspired by the music of Hank Williams, Sr. He began playing rhythm guitar to accompany his singing, and his startling expressive voice won him first and second place in two local talent shows. In March 1953, Al enlisted in the army. He did 18 months in Korea, and was honorably discharged. Rock and Roll became his new found sound of music; his new inspiration was Elvis Presley. Al later moved back to California with his parents, they settled in Bakersfield. This is where he met Buck Owens at the Blackboard Cafe. Al and Buck made music together, often with Bill Woods and The Orange Blossom Playboys. Al started singing Rock and Roll with Jody Keplinger (aka Jolly Jody). Al has recorded under the Tally label, ABC Paramount, LaGree Records and Pike Records. His music is being heard all over Europe. Bo Berglind (Editor of American Music Magazine) has written the story of Al's career. Al also was part of the original what is called the "Bakersfield Sound". Al is also in the "Bakersfield County Music Museum" in Bakersfield, California. Al just released a 20 song CD called "Rare & Rockin'." .
