Keine Ahnung formed at the beginning of the eighties, moved by common roots and a common interest in the exciting new musical developments.

Their controversial name (“Don’t know” or “Haven’t got a clue” in German language) caused quite a confusion and mistake during the whole of their existence. In 1983 they recorded their first record (“Untitled”) in two days’ time and in an edition of 1000 copies which were sold very quickly. This record obtained recognition beyond the German borders and attracted the attention of the British label East West Trading Company, sublabel of Cherry Red Records that re-issued their song “Plastik” as a 12 inch in English and German version. Keine Ahnung toured intensively during that time and recorded songs for a second album, “Falsche Zeit Falscher Ort” which remained unreleased due to beginning musical discordances. In the mid-eighties, the band split for some time, due to its members moving to different cities, but soon reappeared with new members. The CD “Rekonstruktion” (1995) reconstructed the Untitled-Album, adding some new songs and new versions. In 2003, "Plastik" was contained in a probably illegal way in the CD compilation "New Deutsch". Presently, Keine Ahnung is existing essentially as a virtual band with a common past.
