Russian Love was founded in 1986 in the countryside of northern Finland, in Haapavesi. The band started out as a goth group with strong influence from bands like Joy Division and Bauhaus. After two gothic rock / dark wave albums, "Negral" (1988) and "Flaw In The Cradle" (1990), and moving to the city of Oulu their music started to catch more color. On the third album, "Hover Jack" (1992), the band re-invented pop, rock, and loud guitars, and started their alternative period. "Meat Mazurka" (1994) and "Gala Brutale" (1996) continued that musical direction, and especially "Gala Brutale" was hailed as an english-sung-classic in Finnish rock. Since 1998 Russian Love have been spending their lost weekend.

In april 2007 the first Russian Love album "Negral" was re-issued on CD with their first EP nearly 20 years after its original release on vinyl. .
