Curitiba's mod band Tarja Preta ("Black Stripe", as in a warning sign in prescription only medications, a.k.a. amphetamine, hydrochloride and benzodiazepine, among others) began their career around the year 2000, having as a main goal to play cover versions of their major influences such as The Jam, Small Faces, The Rolling Stones, The Sonics and the Ramones.

Originally formed by vocalist Rafael Rodrigues, guitarist Guilherme Nascimento, drummer Ivan Rodrigues and bassist Gabriel "Gabba" Nogueira, the band did not take long to compose their original numbers and to do mind-blowing shows in their home state.

After sudden resignation of Guilherme Nascimento, the band continued to perform in a visceral, soulful power trio format. As time went by and word spread, Tarja Preta became one of Brazil's legendary mod bands, as well as their first record, "Gravado em Glorioso Mono" ("Recorded in Glorious Mono Sound"), recorded in 2001. .
