1.Formed by Peter Williams and Mick Smith in 1977, The Particles were part of the punk explosion begun by the Ramones in the US, the Sex Pistols in the UK and The Saints in Australia, but they soon evolved to become a popular act in the post-punk ‘little bands’ scene. Part of their appeal lay in their irreverence: they described themselves as ’80s bubblegum’ on their business card. The melodic Particles sound is reflected to a degree in the twee-pop movement of the early 2000s.

The Particles were initially based in a small block of flats in North Sydney, a regular haven for visiting interstate punk bands like Brisbane’s Last Words and The Saints, until the building was condemned and demolished. Williams and Smith relocated to inner city Darlinghurst to be closer to the punk-friendly venues. After Michael Wood and Steven Williams joined, The Particles began gigging regularly, billed alongside such bands as The Thought Criminals, Rejex and Kaos. In 1979 Michael Wood left and was replaced by vocalist Astrid Spielman.

During The Particles’ lifetime several members came and went (including first drummer Don McLennan and Simon Bonney, later of Crime & the City Solution) but the line-up of Peter Williams, Mick Smith, Steven Williams and Astrid Spielman was stable enough for the band to record and release the Colour In EP in 1979. Despite the lo-fi recording, it was hailed as a pop classic and gained airplay on alternative radio, especially in Melbourne’s post-punk environment. Their popularity in Sydney grew, helped by a Wednesday night residency at the Sussex Hotel.

Stephen O’Neil joined as bassist when Mick Smith left the band in 1982. Drummer Steven Williams switched to being their manager, replaced by Ian Bowie then Philip Egan. Two more EPs followed - Advanced Colouring (1981) and I Luv Trumpet (1982).

The Particles sound had evolved by 1983 into a successful mixture of drum and tape machines, brass (Alex Hamilton, Nicole Menzies on trumpet) and keyboards. This in itself was not unique within the Sydney post-punk movement but The Particles maintained a buoyant, poppy feel that was lacking in many of the “serious” bands of their time.

Despite continued popularity through regular touring throughout Australia and live radio broadcasts on 2JJJ-FM, The Particles called it a day in 1985. By this time, Steven Williams and Stephen O’Neil were already playing in The Lighthouse Keepers. Stephen O’Neil later joined The Cannanes.

2.The Particles (not the ones from the picture) is a beginning BluesRock band from the Netherlands. The Particles has different parts: a drummer, a guitarist and a bass-guitarist. So far, they had no luck finding the fourth part, a singer, but currently, they are having try-outs with a pianist/singer. Also, they are currently preparing to record there first 5 songs.

3/ABOUT

The Particle’s evolution began immediately after an in-depth collaboration between west Asian artist ‘Avesta’ and ‘The Particles’, which soars a multiple cultural combination of British, German and Persian artists.
The album opens with a driving thrash of oriental instruments and hard rock with an interesting mix of three soaring vocals.
During the formation of the particles use traditional instruments amidst Setar, Daf, Ney and guitar, some of these traditional instruments date from many years ago, like the ‘Ney’ itself has been continuously played for around 4,500 to 5,500 years, known to have stemmed from depictions of wall paintings in the Egyptian pyramids.
The lyrics are in lyric poetry form, which stems from certain mythological characters to a tone and pitch change of three vocals, merges and evokes a storytelling aspect that gives each Ash, Nayla and Sabrina their unique character with each song.
The lead operator of this project Ash, along with the savage sweet Nayla and bitter romantic fortress Sabrina. The Particles was formed in 2005, where they first started work on the album ‘voices’ and have formed a mystical alliance ever since.
