The Righteous Kind

The Righteous Kind is a rock band from Gainesville, FL, a hotbed of musical activity that has produced artists as diverse as Tom Petty, Against me!, and Sister Hazel. Led by award-winning song writer, Charles Ray Martin, The Righteous Kind has an innovative, hard-driving garage/psychedelic rock sound - Think Beatles meet Kings of Leon meet Sly and The Family Stone. The band features superior song writing and has tremendous stylistic range - from garage to alternative to classic to psychedelic to pop rock. The Righteous Kind are superb showmen, and their live shows are more than anything else fun.

The band just released their debut CD entitled ‘Some Are of Love.’ The first track, called ‘The first rock-n-roll song,’ won an international song writing contest sponsored by Broadjam.com. The fourth track, ‘Show me the day,’ won an honorable mention in the 2009 Peacedriven.com song writing contest. This song is the Righteous Kind’s tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr, and they are so proud to be part of this effort to promote world peace.

The band is a group of four veteran musicians with decades of musical performance and recording experience. Charles Ray is the front man and guitarist, who many remember as “The Colonel” from the iconic rockabilly band dblWiDE. On bass is Tom Miller, who played with Chicago blues sensation Vini and the Demons. Larry Thompson, also of dblWiDE fame, does the drumming, and rounding out the group is B.B. Brashear on the Hammond B3 organ.

The entertainment editor of the University of Florida’s Independent Alligator newspaper wrote this about the Righteous Kind’s CD release show…..

‘An older gentleman with long white hair and a long white beard to match wandered through the crowd, and a younger twenty–something–year–old man rocked his head as he yelled to his friend, “I love this band!”’

Universal, like love, that’s The Righteous Kind.
