Yılmaz Erdoğan writes stories, poetry, TV series, theater plays, movie scripts and dance shows.

The question posed to him most frequently is "why do you write." His first answer is simple: "I must write." Then he goes back to his childhood and offers a handful of influential memories.

Yılmaz Erdoğan, who has become a pivotal figure in Turkish theater, literature, and cinema with his works, was born in 1968 in Hakkari, a small city in southeastern Turkey he describes as beginning "where everything has finished." He attended school in Ankara, spending his childhood as "a transistor of knowledge, "travelling back and forth between two cultures. Winters were colored by the chaos of the capital; summers by the unspoiled nature of Hakkari.

He made his first acquaintance with theater in Istanbul, where he had come for his university education. Since then, he has been sharing the "words saved in his pocket" with all of Turkey.
