Mayday Parade was born in 2005 when two popular Tallahassee bands, Kid Named Chicago and Defining Moment, decided to merge and form one group. Graeme Elston's first band, which later led to Pure/Eva Luna, Astronaut and Slipslide. (The Gravy Train was another splinter band from Love Parade.) Their first release was a flexi on Stephen Maughan's Dolphin 7 label in 1989, and it came with his This Almighty Pop! fanzine. The only proper vinyl releases were the eps "Lazy Days" and "The Guilt Chest", both on German label A Turntable Friend (1990). Japanese fans could rejoice over a cassette compiling all those songs plus a few extras, called "Past Crimes". This tape is supposedly from 1991. .
