Flora Purim (born March 6, 1942) is a Brazilian jazz singer known primarily for her work in the jazz fusion style. She became prominent for her part in Return to Forever with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke. She has recorded and performed with numerous critically acclaimed artists, including Dizzy Gillespie, Gil Evans, Opa, Stan Getz, Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, Santana, Jaco Pastorius, and her husband Airto Moreira. This is a jazz-oriented collaboration between drummer Matt Chamberlain, guitarist Bill Frisell, and producers Tucker Martine and Lee Townsend. They are also joined by bassist Viktor Krauss, cornetist Ron Miles and violin/viola player Eyvind Kang. The two producers had a very active hand in the recording of the CD "Floratone": First, Frisell and Chamberlain improvised in the studio, and afterwards, the recordings were cut up, reassembled, and looped by Martine and Townsend to create the basic tunes. Finally Frisell and Chamberlain (and the other musicians) returned to the studio to add melodies and further layers. .
