Matt Schwartz is an indie hip hop artist from Detroit, MI. .
Since 1998, he has been on the road playing "folk" venues: festivals (Kerrville, Philly Folk, Falcon Ridge, Oregon Country Fair, South Florida, for example); premier venues such as The Bottom Line, The Ark, The Birchmere, The Tin Angel,Club Passim; and the gigs that keep the singer-songwriter fed: house Concerts, coffeehouses, colleges etc. He composed the score for a musical adaptation of Beowulf presented as a workshop in NYC starring Andre DeShields and Billy Porter. Schwartzeneggar was anarcho-punk band formed by ex-Crass singer Steve Ignorant, Arthur Dent (bass), Ben Whatever (guitar, backup vocals), Mark Pickstone (keyboards) and Andi Tuck (drums). Abe Schwartz (1881-1963) was a well-known klezmer musician of the 1920s. Schwartz was born near Bucharest, Romania, and moved to the United States in 1899. He soon distinguished himself as a talented arranger and composer of music, as well as a violinist, pianist, and bandleader. The famous klezmer clarinettist Naftule Brandwein played for a time in Schwartz's ensemble, notably on popular songs like Brandwein's own "Firn Di Mekhutonim Aheym" (Leading the In-Laws Home). They also performed Schwartz's famous number "Di Grine Kuzine" (The Greenhorn Cousin), still played today by klezmer revivalists. .
Lucy Schwartz is a singer/songwriter with an “old soul” that belies her young age of eighteen. Although her influences are varied, the result is a truly original and timeless musical voice. She just released a CD of original songs titled "Winter in June". Lucy has been performing with her band at Los Angeles area clubs and this summer she also played the Palo Alto Music & Film Festival, Central Park's Harlem Meer Music Festival and opened for Guggenheim Grotto at the Canal Room in NYC.
