Formed in 1988 the name M-D-Emm was derived from a combination of the original line-up's names - Mark Ryder, Dave Lee & Emmanuel Cheal. However, the group split during 89-90. Mark however continued the project on his own. From 1991 all marks m-d-emm material was released through his label Strictly Underground . The ska-band ‘Mr.Review’ was formed in Amsterdam in 1983. Drummer Roel Ording and guitar player Arne Visser allready played together in a band when they met ‘Dr. Rude’. The three of them shared an interest in ska and reggae music. For this reason they decided to join forces and start a new band. Pretty soon a keyboard player was found and Hans Hoffman on saxophone became the first brass player of the band. After a start when the band played some reggae too, they choose definately for ska.
