Jean Racine (French pronunciation: [ʒɑ̃ ʁaˈsin]), baptismal name Jean-Baptiste Racine (22 December 1639 – 21 April 1699), was a French dramatist, one of the "Big Three" of 17th-century France (along with Molière and Corneille), and one of the most important literary figures in the Western tradition. Peter Racine Fricker (September 5, 1920–February 1, 1990) was an English composer who lived in the United States for the last thirty years of his life. Fricker was born in London, and studied with R. O. Morris and Ernest Bullock at the Royal College of Music. After serving in the Royal Air Force during World War II, Fricker undertook a period of study with Mátyás Seiber. There are, at least, two artists known as Racine: 1) A band fronted by Wendy James, a singer-songwriter best known for her lead singing role in the late 80's pop band Transvision Vamp. In 1993 she released her first solo album, containing songs written for her by Elvis Costello, "Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears".
