Bordello is a defunct Montreal band which formed in the late nineties. The group was composed of Nahz ( vocals), Coffin Joe (guitar), Cedric (guitar), Jimmy (bass) and Simon (drums). Their first album, No Angel, was released in 2002 and was followed by a full length album in 2006 entitled, Never See the Sun. After the departure of Nahz in 2006 the remaining band members reunited with the singer of their original lineup, Erle, with whom they had played a couple of shows but never recorded any material and changed their name to The Crypt Club in 2008. .

Combining elements of punk, gypsy music, and Brechtian cabaret, Gogol Bordello tells the story of New York's immigrant diaspora through debauchery, humor, and surreal costumes. Leader and singer Eugene Hütz's taste in music was spun out of black-market tapes of the The Birthday Party and Einstürzende Neubauten in his native Ukraine. After being evacuated to Western Ukraine in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster, Hütz became enamored of the mystical, outsider qualities of gypsy music. Singer Catherine "Weena" Truscelli and guitarist Alain Frappier began Baroque Bordello in 1981 with drummer Gilles "Prad" Pradinas and bassist Gilles "Pewal" Bourges. Their main influences were British and American artists, ranging from Patti Smith to Joy Division and The Stranglers. Bordel Militaire was formed in 2008 by David Tonkin (Isomer) and Ben Taylor (Shifting Shelves) as a lounge-industrial project, utilising samples, live instrumentation and power-electronics inspired effects. The first performance was in Melbourne on 23rd of June 2009. Bordel Militaires self-titled debut draws inspiration from classic film soundtracks, lounge and exotica artists, and iconic 60’s production techniques.
