A true standard for the piano-hardcore Techno era, "Different Strokes" joins together amazing samples, beats and synth lines. The synth pads on the beginning are taken from "Pacific" by 808 State and re-worked, but you can still figure out it was taken from there; the synthesizer lines goes from these atmospheric ones to the amazing piano melodies of "Salsa House" (1989) by Richie Rich, and also a fragment of the hoover synths from the Techno Anthem 'Second Phase - Mentasm' (1991) - both on the drop out of "Different Strokes". The vocal samples are from 'Whatever Makes You Happy' (1990)...

Nacho Sotomayor was born in Villanueva del Arzobispo (Jaén, Spain) in 1966. During two decades he combined the experimentation in the area of digital computing and electronic musical treatments with his studies of Philosophy and Arts. Isotope 217° were a Chicago based band composed mainly of members from Tortoise and the Chicago Underground Orchestra that was formed in 1997. The New York Times described the band as "..adept to varying degrees at rock and funk and jazz and electronics, turn those introspective moments into jams that are messier and warmer than Tortoise's."
