"Buffy" is short for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a fantasy-horror television program that aired on The WB from 1997–2001, and then on UPN from 2001-2003, lasting seven seasons. The show starred Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, a teenage girl who has been gifted with supernatural powers with which to fight vampires, demons, and other creatures that might threaten humanity.

The program features a great deal of music. The Buffy theme was performed by Nerf Herder and the series was scored by Christophe Beck (among others). In addition, Buffy and her friends hung out at a club called the Bronze, where many real-life bands performed on stage, including Aimee Mann and Cibo Matto. A few episodes featured the fictional band Dingoes Ate My Baby, whose songs were actually written and performed by Four Star Mary.

In season 6 the series debuted a musical episode called Once More With Feeling, where the characters were under a spell that forced them to sing songs for the entire episode.

Overall, two compilation albums were released (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Album and Radio Sunnydale), one score soundtrack (Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Score), and the soundtrack for Once More With Feeling. .
