Gay metal has little or nothing to do with artists' orientation. It coloquially refers to stereotypes of softness, unmanliness and kitsch (in lyrics, choruses and/or stage image) which is not found in typical rough metal music and style. It has been used for example by thrash metal fans when speaking of power metal, technical death metal fans speaking of melodic death metal or black metal fans speaking of anything at all.
