Newgaze, or the New Wave of Shoegaze, is a form of alternative rock originating in the late 1990s / early 2000s. The genre takes the ethereal, heavily effected guitars of the British Shoegaze scene of the early 90's and combines it with more modern influences from both sides of the Atlantic. The genre is very diverse as certain bands have synth/electronica influences and others have heavier rock elements but all are united by layers of guitar textures. .
