regressive | en

Regressive music is an avant-garde music genre that is chaotic and untrained. It is conceptually radical, and frequently satirizes conventional pop music. The term Regressive was coined by the group DUPOBS to describe their own music and other music like it. Thus the term Regressive can also apply to groups such as The Residents, Yximalloo, Violent Onsen Geisha, the Happy Flowers, LĂ„ngben GĂ„r PĂ„ Zoo, and DAF in their early period. DUPOBS have written a Regressive manifesto that contains the following genre clarification: “Regressive music is the act of vomiting the world back onto itself. In so doing regressive musicians become liberated, and help to liberate the world around them – purged of the rubbish foisted upon them”.
